Classic High Tea - 3 December 2023
Report and photos Jim Paterson

From across Scotland - members from near and far

Our end of the touring year for members to get together to chat about their year of classic motoring, took place at our usual venue at the Royal George Hotel in Perth. Thirtysix members made it through snow, ice and freezing temperatures. The meals were great and of course the world famous Meringues took pride of place on the tea plate that followed

Once again the Royal George Hotel in Perth gave us their large dining room, the room we usually use, because I always ask for, as it allows sufficient spacing between tables.

It was good to meet our regular members and new faces. George and Janet Petrie, Tony and Ruairidh Fleming being amongst them. A few of our committee members turned out with Ralph and Linda Forbes joining us, along with John Stuart, Tom Niven and Karen Wilson, George and Jean Shand.

This year we ran an optional 'dress in old rally kit' bit of fun. Quite a selection turned out as you can see. Jackets, T Shirts, Hats and other regalia appeared. Colin Stewart brought his Pebble Beach jacket, part of the the class prize for his showing of his 1934 SS Tourer in 2015 at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California.

I had my photo taken in the jacket which will stay with the car. Possibly the last chance I would get to don this magnificent item.

The car has a fascinating history and with less than 50 thought to exist worldwide makes it very rare indeed.

Colin has a photographic record of how he found it in Waco Texas, restored it taking thousands of hours to complete, and  winning that Pebble Beach concours d'Elegance.

We talked of our planned tours for next year, starting with the Red Hackle in May. Organisers Ron, Jan Adam and George Shand have the route drafted, part checked, await snow to clear to check the rest. A return of the Museum Tour, Fife and Ochil's, and Rally of the Borders, all with new routes and places to visit. Full details at Sneak Peek

The Club wishes ALL our members and everyone who is a classic car enthusiast, a very merry Christmas and a really good fun Classic New Year.
