It's
back in 2012
Douglas AndersonWithin
weeks of the finish of the Monte, I received an email from the
Automobile Club de Monaco asking if I would again co-ordinate the 2012
Glasgow Start on Sunday 29 January 2012. To be asked again,
without hesitation, is a credit to all those who helped out on the 2011
event. So, due to our success, we will be doing it all again
next
year. I know that I said ‘Never Again’,
but I now
know that you should ‘never say never’.
Secretly I am
delighted to be asked. I have had lots of
feedback
and some
very constructive comments on the 2011 Start and UK leg. I
have
taken them all on board and will be implementing some changes for next
year. The Start Towns have now been announced officially and
are
up on the Automobile Club de Monaco website (www.acm.mc).
It
goes without saying that the meetings have already started and
negotiations on the budget have begun. I had a particularly
good
meeting with the new Minister for Sport and she is very keen on
supporting the event. I have some new
ideas for next year, one of
which is to encourage more Scots to enter the Rallye. I am
floating the idea of a ‘Scotland Works’ Rally Team
and I
would be interested in your views. All
going to plan, Jim and I
will be donning our trademark duffle coats and heading off to Monte
Carlo in January, in a mystery car. I am trying to make sure
that
it will be ready before 9pm on the day before the Rallye.
Watch
this space.
