Grand Caledonian Tour -
25 September to 9 October story Margaret Campbell
Day 14 - Friday 8 October ; Aberdeen to Perth
This
morning we were joined by Kevin and Anne who had brought their Smart
Roadster Coupe as the Jensen Healey was not ready and Terry and Liz who
had swapped the Audi for a Tesla S. Leaving
Aberdeen we headed west on the A944 to Alford then south and west on
A980 and B9119 till we hit the B976 South Deeside road turning west
again through Ballater and alongside Balmoral Estate to Braemar where
we stopped for coffee. Not with the Queen I might add - she was
nowhere to be seen!! After
our stop we took the A93 south passing the Devil’s Elbow and
Glenshee and down into Blairgowrie where we came across another road
closure and had to divert to a different road but still ending up in
Dunkeld. We realised
that we had a bit of time in hand as today’s mileage was not
overly long so we planned a trip to the museum at Stanley Mills but
were disappointed to find it closed, due to Covid. Like the more famous Lanark Mills on the River Clyde (Ed
host to the start of many CCHMSC events ove rthe years), Stanley Mills
dates from the late 1700's when the Industrial Revolution was starting
to change the way people lived in Scotland. the oldest parts of the
mill buildings are preserved as a museum that tells the story of the
people and products that were associated with Stanley Mills in its
almost 200 years of productive operation
Stanley Mills closed when we arrived

Ready for dinner.
Did someone say the Queen was joining us? |
We
then took a slight diversion and went to Bankfoot for a bite to eat and
a little retail therapy. Leaving Bankfoot we were soon back on route
through Pitcairngreen and Almondbank and into Perth for our last
overnight stop.
