Grand Caledonian Tour -
25 September to 9 October story Margaret Campbell
Day 11 - Tuesday 5 October ; Wick to Inverness
Leaving
Wick we followed the A99 south down the coast through Lybster, Dunbeath
and Helmsdale. The weather was kind and we had a really good view
of the Beatrice Oil platform and the massive wind turbines close
by. We left the
A99 at Brora and headed inland along the side of Loch Brora and over
the moors to Rogart on a lovely little unclassified road. Meeting
the A839 we headed west to Lairg then south onto the B864 and
along to the Falls of Shin where we walked down to the falls and
actually saw a salmon leap. Falls of Shin |

We
then joined the A836 to Bonar Bridge where we stopped for a cup of
coffee and to say goodbye to Joe and Hazel as well as Ranald and Louise
who were leaving us at this point. From
Bonar Bridge we headed south once more and leaving the main road headed
over the Struie on the B9176 stopping at the wonderful viewpoint for
some photos then joining the little unclassified road in Evanton we
eventually arrived in Dingwall. From
there we headed across to Strathpeffer and after a short spell on the
A835 we took the A832 to Muir of Ord joining the A862 to Beauly.
After Beauly we cut over Glen Convinth and joining the A82 at
Drumnadrochit we headed down the north side of Loch Ness to Fort
Augustus and took the B862 heading up the other side of the loch.
As there was a rest day in Inverness the next day (Day 12 Wednesday 6
October) we didn’t finish the route and headed home as we live
only 10 miles from Inverness.
