Dressed for action. Morris crew Dave Spence (Left) and Roddie Main in classic fifties gear (where did they get those hats!) to match a great car.

Roddie takes role of scrutineer with Donald Campbell on his right, making sure he checks everything thoroughly!

Donald Campbell's 1955 Sunbeam Talbot, eyes the upstart Lotus 7 while their owners take a light break on route.

Drive It Day - Highland Style - 21 April 2013
Report by Dave Spence

Some of us resident in the Highlands were unable to join the Strathendrick run, however CCHMSC members Dave Spence and Roddie Main and Donald and Margaret Campbell joined up with the Highland Classic Motor Club www.highlandclassic.org.uk on their run round Loch Ness.

Donald and Margaret were in the faithful Sunbeam Mk3 just recently returned from the Argyll Classic and Dave and Roddie were giving Dave’s wife Maureen’s Morris 1000, rece
ntly inherited from her father, its first airing of the year. To set the theme, Dave and Roddie came dressed in “authentic” period gear (see picture).

Approximately 30 cars of various ages and types turned up at the start (although not all did the run), varying from a couple of hot rods to a 1920’s Rolls Royce. The route started by the shores of the Beauly Firth at Stadium Road, Inverness and headed out on the A862 to the Old North Inn where there was a re-group and coffee break.

They then headed down the A833 to Drumnadrochit and A82 to Fort Augustus where another brief stop was enjoyed. A sharp climb which tested some of the older cars followed up the Glendoe Brae and Suie Hill to White Bridge. The cars then followed the twisty narrow B852 to Foyers, then up the south shore of Loch Ness to finish up at Dores Inn for more refreshments.

The weather, which had threated to be a bit damp turned out to be pretty good and all in all it turned out to be a very pleasant leisurely drive (not like us you may say!!)
